In 2010 I wrote a controversial article encouraging leaders to replace their organization’s “mission statements” with a “purpose statement” because purpose creates the inspiration for sustained motivation necessary to consistent progress towards success.
That’s why I was encouraged this week through the magic of social media, to follow a link to a short video with another speaker, Simon Sinek, taking my concept to an even more practical level, discussing a specific model for doing what I suggested in the article.
In this video presentation he points to examples such as Apple, the Wright Brothers and Martin Luther King, Jr. among others who used the power of purpose, what he calls the “Why” factor, to inspire others to follow and create great things.
I am now paying this forward and recommending that if you lead an organization, you should watch this video and apply the power of purpose to your 2012 message:
What Simon is speaking about is visionary and inspirational leadership, which I worked on with participants in last year’s Confident Leaders’ Training Camp. An outcome from that program was a new series this year on Leadership Communication called The Leadership Communication Mastery Series, it starts next month, Febrauary!
’til next time, make it a great week!
